About the course

iKids Education is officially registered school at The Center for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) and authorized to register students for the contest of Beaver Computing Challenge, hosted by Waterloo University.

If you are interested in both Math and Programming, then this is the course that you are looking for. This course teaches problem solving strategies on Math problems from computer science and programing perspectives. It offers plenty of Mind trainings on interesting Math problems. At the end of this course, students may participate in Beaver Computing Challenge, hosted by Waterloo University.

The ultimate goal of this course is to build up the interest of both computer science and mathematics, establish a connection between programming techniques and math problems, improve the problem solving skills. Our students will be able to apply the techiniques that they have learned in class on various practical problems, not limited to math problems. They will develop the confidence in both mathematics and computer science. Meanwhile, this course helps students to understand the application of Math in the real world.

Course Syllabus

We offer this course based on Beaver Computing Challenge age groups. The materials will based on each age group.

Prerequisites

  • Completion of CodingMind Basic (1)
  • Understanding of basic math (Grade 3 math)

Age

We offer this course based on Beaver Computing Challenge age groups:

  • Students in Grade 6 or below are eligible for the Grade 5/6 BCC.
  • Students in Grade 8 or below are eligible for the Grade 7/8 BCC.
  • Students in Grade 10 or below are eligible for the Grade 9/10 BCC.

Course Delivery Format

  • Each class runs for 60 minutes
  • One class per week
  • This course will be delivered via zoom or other online meeting tool
  • A Scratch online classroom will be provided to the students in order to access class materials and projects
  • This course contains various interactions between students and the teacher. During the coding session, students will be divided into small groups and work on assigned projects individually, along with teacher’s instruction and group discussion.

Requirements

  • A desktop or laptop is preferred. Tablet is acceptable but not recommended. Mobile phone is not recommended for this course.
  • Stable internet connection
  • Chrome 63 or higher, Edge 15 or higher, Firefox 57 or higher, Safari 11 or higher, Mobile Chrome 63 or higher, Mobile Safari 11 or higher. Internet Explorer is NOT supported.
  • A webcam and a microphone are strongly recommended for teacher-student face-to-face communication.
