About Me

I have a strong background in the area of educational technologies and the applications of technologies in education. I am currently a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Toronto, where I develop online learning environments and study how such environments facilitate teaching and learning. I employ my knowledge and expertise in data science to design novel assessment tools in order to analyze students' interactions and learning in online learning environments and to provide them with formative feedback.

I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and my master of education degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland. My master of education and my doctoral studies were both in the area of educational technologies. My M.Ed. thesis was focused on the use of robotics for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. For my doctoral dissertation, I used a variety of technologies, including educational robotics and online learning environments, to facilitate teaching and learning of math concepts.

Prior to starting my M.Ed. program at Memorial University, I co-founded and co-directed an educational technology company in 2003 and worked there as the education manager to develop curriculums for teaching STEM-related topics, including robotics, and to train instructors to teach those materials. I also worked there as a consultant engineering in the R&D department to employ my engineering knowledge and expertise- gained through my bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering- to design educational kits such as educational robots to facilitate teaching and learning of STEM-related topics.
